Hi, I’m Chris.
I’m a professional premium beta reader and writer. Since 2022, I have collaborated with over 150 authors across six continents on more than 280 projects—ranging from short stories to full-length novels.
My background includes a BA in Creative Writing & English, a few publication credits of my own, and a decade of leadership experience volunteering with a national youth organization. I am also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served as a sergeant and training NCO.
That background brings a high level of discipline, structure, and a sharp, analytical eye to every narrative I analyze. I know how to look at a manuscript objectively, diagnose structural hurdles, and offer the precise, constructive suggestions a story needs to move toward publication.

The Craft and the Discipline
My life is a carefully balanced mix of running a professional editorial practice, writing fiction, and being a stay-at-home dad. During the weekdays, while my wife works as a marriage and family therapist, I handle the daily routines and care for our daughter and young son.
Because my daytime is dedicated to family, managing a high volume of manuscripts requires a strict schedule. My editing days routinely begin at 5:00 AM. This early routine ensures that your project receives completely focused, uninterrupted analytical attention before the household wakes up. I believe that respecting the writer’s craft demands that level of consistency.
When the workday is done, you can usually find me keeping up with industry mainstays like Writer’s Digest, analyzing classic fiction with staying power, or heading out of our desert town with my family to recharge.
Why Talk Beta to Me?
During my time working with writers globally, I started noticing common narrative hurdles and structural trends that many authors face. I launched this blog as a centralized resource to expand on those insights, share notes on writing craft, and offer a transparent look at the developmental editing process.
On this site, I will be sharing regular essays on story structure, industry insights, and lessons learned from the editorial trenches.
A Note on My Editing Philosophy
While I approach every manuscript with a disciplined, diagnostic eye, my ultimate goal is to support your specific vision. I work with authors across every imaginable genre—from high-concept fantasy to deeply personal contemporary drama. No matter the subject matter, I promise to be polite, respectful, helpful, and thorough.
In fact, when we work together, you get to set the dial on the feedback delivery:
| Approach | Feedback Style |
|---|---|
| The Gentle Approach | If criticism stings and you need a softer touch to protect the early draft process. |
| The Balanced Approach | Standard, objective feedback highlighting exactly what works and what needs work. |
| The Deep Dive | No punches pulled—comprehensive, diagnostic critique for deep structural refinement. |
